I am sending a warm greeting to all of you. As I reflect on my many years in Newcomers, I will be forever grateful for the memories created by my experiences as an active member.
My life has changed with my move to Lake County, but the friendships forged remain in a special place in my heart. I commend the members who continually step up to volunteer in a variety of positions. Their ongoing participation helps keep the amount of work balanced in operating this wonderful club.
You are very fortunate to have a dedicated woman like Betty Little as your President for 2020-2021. It would surely be nice to have new members consider the areas where they can serve the club and be a part of shaping Newcomers in the coming years. The club only survives and thrives through its members and their contributions in many areas of expertise.
I was glad that my life allowed me to serve on the Board for almost 25 years in many different positions. I grew emotionally and spiritually from doing jobs unfamiliar to me, while learning how to do them from others who knew how.
I encourage you to look into your hearts and find some way to become a large part of helping our club operate for the mutual good of all.
Here's a handy list of the names of 2020-2021 Executive Board Officers, Committee Chairs, and Interest Group Chairs. Keep in mind that our terms of office start June 1 and end May 30 of the following year.
Newcomers of Central Florida, Inc. has a long and distinguished history in this area dating back to early links to Welcome Wagon and Maitland Newcomers. In 2011, members Nancy Jaeger and Georgeann Clemons did some extensive research and put together a comprehensive history of the club which was compiled in a handout distributed at the club's 20th anniversary celebration luncheon. If you want to see how the club has changed and grown over the years as a women's social club with a strong community outreach arm, check out this wonderful in-depth article from 2011.
Newcomers of Central Florida, Inc. is an organization for women that offers friendship, social activities, and helpful information to new and long-time residents in the area. Monthly meetings are held at various country clubs, hotels and restaurants with programs ranging from a fashion show in the spring to entertaining and informative speakers. Luncheons are held on the third Thursday of every month, except in December, when they are held on the second Thursday of the month. Special social functions throughout the year are planned for members and guests. Along with our social activities, our outreach committee guides our selection of various local charities which benefit each year from our fundraising projects.
